Captain Mike White

There is no question that Mike is a fishing veteran, as he has been a captain for 30+ years. He has been a year-round resident of Sitka for many years and has extensive knowledge and great respect for the local waters. Mike is one heck of a salmon fisherman and great at sharing his knowledge with anyone who comes aboard his vessel. Fishing with Captain Mike is bound to make you want to come back time and time again.

Captain Johnny Belcher

F/V HIGH ROLLER

Johnny has been one with the sea for as long as anyone can remember. Starting as a commercial diver at age 14, and eventually moving on to Alaska Premier Charters, Inc. in 1996, Captain Johnny rarely seems to leave the water. He has also been a commercial halibut long-liner for over 10 years, which has given him ample experience in the migration and distribution patterns of halibut. As an all-time winner of the McGyver award, and natural flair for good fishing stories and non-stop entertainment, fishing with Captain Johnny is always a memorable experience.

Captain Jeff Ching

F/V FULL HOUSE

Jeff was born and raised in the Seattle area and is a graduate of Washington State University. He came to Sitka in 1997 as a deckhand and became a skipper in 2000. Captain Jeff has a great passion for fishing and the ocean. His proven angling techniques, easy-going nature, and abundant knowledge of the history of the area make for a memorable experience for all who have the pleasure of fishing with him. Fishing with Captain Jeff guarantees a wonderful and relaxing fishing vacation.

Captain Greg Trevarthen

F/V TRIPLE PLAY

Greg is known around the lodge as “G-Money” and has been fishing in Sitka for many seasons. Greg joined forces with Alaska Premier Charters in 1999. His knowledge of the area makes him one of “The Greats” when it comes to finding the best king salmon in the sea. Derby winning king salmon have been caught on Captain Greg’s boat three times in Sitka. He is personable, easy-going, levelheaded, and has a keen instinct when it comes to finding that special fish. He has developed “the gene” and uses it to his advantage.

Captain Kyle Muir

F/V CHECKMATE

Kyle was born and raised in Oregon. He grew up fishing on rivers, lakes, and the ocean his whole life. His love for fishing brought him to Sitka, Alaska to work as a deckhand at Alaska Premier Charters which allowed him to become a captain in 2018. Captain Kyle instills confidence in everyone he meets, and has an irresistible smile. His continuous attention to detail combined with his top shelf customer service, ensure a memorable and productive trip that you will not soon forget!

Captain David Haapala

David grew up in central Minnesota and has always loved the thrill of tight lines and learned the ropes of being a great deckhand from his brother Captain Dylan, with the goal of becoming a captain. He has already proven himself to be a competent and first-class addition to our captains team. David is hard-working, cheerful and always ready to coach and assist you in the art of fishing. It’s always a fun time fishing with Captain David!

Captain Michael Bloch

Known around the lodge as “Montana Mike,” Captain Michael was born and raised in Montana, where a passion for hunting, fishing, and the outdoors became a way of life from an early age. Growing up chasing trout on Montana’s rivers and lakes gave him a strong foundation as an angler, developing the patience, work ethic, and instinct that continue to serve him on the waters of Southeast Alaska today.

Driven by his love of fishing and adventure, Michael made the move north to Sitka to join the team at Wild Strawberry Lodge as a deckhand. From his first season, he quickly earned a reputation as one of the hardest-working members of the crew. Whether preparing boats before daylight, helping guests land trophy salmon and halibut, or putting in the extra effort long after the day’s charter was over, Michael embraced every opportunity to learn from the experienced captains around him.

At Wild Strawberry Lodge, earning the title of captain is something truly special. As a family-owned lodge for more than 34 years, we’ve built a tradition of promoting from within whenever possible. With very little turnover among our captains, opportunities to move into the wheelhouse are rare and must be earned through years of dedication, professionalism, and a commitment to both our guests and our team. In 2026, Michael proudly continued that tradition, achieving his goal of becoming a captain after working his way up through the ranks.

Today, Captain Michael proudly runs the Bank Roll, where he combines his lifelong passion for fishing with countless days spent learning the productive waters surrounding Sitka. His calm demeanor, strong work ethic, and determination to put guests on fish make him a favorite among anglers of all experience levels. Whether you’re chasing hard-fighting king salmon, filling the cooler with halibut, or experiencing Alaska fishing for the very first time, Michael is committed to making every trip aboard the Bank Roll safe, memorable, and successful.

Captain Alex Riley

Captain Alex was born and raised in Minnesota, where his passion for the outdoors, adventure, and exploration began at an early age. From his first days on the water, Alex knew that fishing wasn’t just a hobby—it was what he wanted to build his life around. That calling eventually led him west to Alaska, and since 2019 he has proudly called Sitka his summer home.

After his very first season on the water here, Alex knew he had found exactly what he was looking for. The incredible fisheries, rugged coastline, and unmatched beauty of Sitka combined everything he loves most about the outdoors. As a captain, Alex brings both dedication and enthusiasm to every day on the water, whether he’s helping guests land their first fish or chasing trophy catches in Alaska’s legendary waters.

When he’s not at the helm, you’ll find Alex traveling, exploring new places, and searching for his next great adventure—always bringing that same curiosity and excitement back to his time with guests.  Verified AK Hunting and Fishing Extraordinary outdoor adventure experience. Scenery and wildlife were amazing. Josh, Justin and crew were all superb in their professionalism and service. Food was incredible, fishing guides were spot on and friendliness of everyone involved was over the top.  Verified The BEST it does not get any better than the Wild Strawberry Lodge, hands down Wow, this was my 1st trip to Alaska and my 1st visit to the WSL and I am a huge fan. I can't wait to go back and have not stopped talking about my trip. I caught my 1st Halibut, ton's of Salmon and cool Rockfish. The scenery is breathtaking Alaska and Sitka are so wonderful. 5 Star's for ALL the staff, we had the best Captain and Mate I have never seen crew work so hard to make sure you had a blast. The Lodge staff again, 5 Star's, amazing food, great rooms and awesome company. Stress free, they pack, freeze and seal all your fish ready at the airport when you leave.  Verified Woman Angler approved :) As a first time Alaska angler and a solo woman travel I had called several fishing lodges before picking wild strawberry lodge. It was an incredible experience. In a sport mostly run by men it was very intimidating but the crew made me feel very comfortable. Everyone was very nice and patient. The rooms were comfortable. If you’re coming be prepared for a trip of a life time. Will be going again soon.

 Verified Saltwater Fishing Mecca-Sitka My 3rd time visiting the Wild Strawberry Lodge in Sitka this past September. First time fishing with Captain Chad and deckhand Ben on the vessel Bankroll. Safety was priority 1 for Captain Chad. We faced some challenging fishing conditions due to weather, but at no time did it feel unsafe. Since there were only 2 of us in our group, but room for 6 on the boat, we fished with other groups each day on our 3 day package. Vessel was in top shape and very neat & tidy. Fishing equipment is some of the best I’ve used anywhere in Alaska. Captain Chad made incredible made to order sandwiches for lunch daily while on the boat. Theresa and her staff took care of everything at the lodge. If you want to explore Sitka or the surrounding area the lodge has vans to take you there and back. Our trip was much too short. Food was great, both on and off the water. Accommodations were very clean and comfortable in a relaxed atmosphere. Service was exceptional! Can’t wait to return.

 Verified AMAZING! I have to admit, I was a little hesitant to join my friends who have been coming here for the past 12 years, because I mean, lets be honest, its not a cheap trip! HOWEVER, it was SO WORTH IT! The Wild Strawberry Lodge and its staff are AMAZING! They absolutely take care of you from the moment you land till the moment you get back on the plane. The food was amazing, shuttle service to wherever you need to go, and they keep the place immaculately clean! The rooms are simple, but comfortable with comfortable beds and all the amenities you would need. The boat captains and deck hands go above and beyond to see to it that you have a great time. In the end, they clean, label, vacume seal your fish and box it up AND take care of the check in process when you are ready to depart. Sitka itself is beautiful with eagle sightings multiple times per day. We are already booking for next year!

 Verified Fishing Excellence Best trip to AK, everything was covered with meeting at airport, excellent staff great fishing and excellent accommodation. The organization of the lodge is by far the best I have encountered all of the world. From catering to all requests, to the food the atmosphere to the best captain and crew you could ask for. This place is in a great location walking distance to boat and shops and shuttle to and from lodge with your catch boxed and checked in for you at the airport. Phill AZ & NZ

 Verified GREAT Customer service, amazing food, and awesome fishing! Always a stellar experience where the customer service is the only thing better than the fishing. I really enjoy the delicious dinners of panko ling cod, prime rib, clam chowder, etc. I can’t wait to come back!

 Verified Will go again! An amazing family owned and operating lodge and fishing adventures. The food is amazing, the staff is warm and friendly. I didn’t fish and felt just as welcomed and cared for as those who fished. This was my first time, my husbands been 4 times. They take care of all the details…fishing gear provided, process and freeze fish for transporting home. Our last dinner we were given their cookbook. Just tonight I made the tuna zucchini cakes.
